You will pay more for the powerhead, charger and batteries though. Do you have the Kombi system unit already? Or do you prefer a dedicated unit for each task? Stihl offers attachment quality and variety that is second to none. The quality of Stihl AP series battery equipment is the same as what you are used to for the pro-grade gas stuff. There are a few pieces missing from the attachment line-up but nothing the average homeowner is going to miss. There also is no option to power a few power-hungry attachments (Like a bed redefiner or cultivator) with a gas powerhead should that appeal to you. The only drawback for Ego is that you are 100% committed to 56V battery if you buy separate tools (and not the multi-head system) and there's no painless upgrade path should they come out with a better battery platform in the future. The quality of the tools is pretty decent IMO and they offer some pretty nice features as well. Especially if all you are looking for is a strimmer, edger, blower and maybe a hedge trimmer. I am going to be using the edger at a single family home on the sidewalks, street, and driveway once a week in summer, once every few weeks in fall and winter, it's Florida so we never get time off.Ĭlick to expand.I'll say upfront that the EGo system would be fine. Starting with an Edger to replace a 1981 purchased walk behind Craftsman. Eventually I want to expand to a hedge trimmer and maybe one day replace my string trimmer, which right now is Sthil professional and working fine. This is strictly a lawn product decision and not about which one will work with my drill or whatever else they all do now. I have no other battery anything so I don't have an existing brand to buy into. Do I need a Sthil or will the Ego be fine? I am not a professional contractor and just putter around my lawn on the weekends. On the same coin I also don't want to spend $100s extra if it makes no difference. Ego is $100s cheaper but price doesn't really matter for this. Right now that is what I want to buy into. I know there are a dozen others but I don't care and this is what I have narrowed it down to.ĭoes anyone have any experience comparing the two? I have always used Sthil professional grade from my local contractor supply for my gas stuff but with a switch to battery I don't know if they are still considered top of the line. The blower is backed by a 5-year warranty for added peace of mind.I am down to these two brands.
